In 1882 William Nimmons, an
English immigrant, purchased a half section of land on the present day
site of Bankview for farming and ranching purposes. During the economic
boom of the early 1900s, the Nimmons' land was subdivided along a
traditional grid pattern and housing development began in earnest. The
character of Bankview as a low density inner city community changed
dramatically during the 1950s, when much of the area was redesigned to
allow for the construction of walk-up apartment buildings. As a result,
intensive redevelopment occurred in main parts of Bankview. The
community has been stabilized through community planning and approval of
the Bankview Area Redevelopment Plan. The community now offers a
diversity of housing units and inner city lifestyles
