Today, the Calgary Stampeder Football Club is pleased to announce the free agent signing of Quarterback Ryan Cubit, Running Back Ken Simonton and Defensive Lineman Tearrius George.

Cubit was a two-year team captain at Western Michigan and led the team with 2,138 yards and 16 touchdowns, while completing just under 62% of his passes.

"Ryan had a very successful college career and following our recent free agent camp our personnel staff decided his skill set can help him be successful in the CFL,” said General Manager Jim Barker. "He is a very smart, good decision-maker on the field who throws a very accurate ball."

In his final season with the Western Michigan, Cubit led the Broncos with an overall passing rating of 119.7 which was partly attributed to his 130 completions on 212 attempts, 1,223 passing yards and 10 touchdown passes. He led Western Michigan to the International Bowl on January 6, 2007. This was the first bowl game for Western Michigan since 1988, when the team played in the California Raisin Bowl.

In 2005 he was named team captain for the 2005 season. He played in three games, completing 64 of 107 passes (60.2 percent) for 668 yards, six touchdowns, three interceptions and a 125.39 passing efficiency rating. His performance included a three touchdown pass performance in a win against Southern Illinois.

A successful Running Back, Simonton was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2002 by the San Francisco 49ers. Shortly after he signed with the Buffalo Bills and was allocated to NFL Europe to play for the Scottish Claymores. He would set a team record for rushing touchdowns in a season (8) and was selected as the NFL Europe Offensive MVP after rushing for a league-high 841 yards with 39 receptions (4th in league).

"A highly-productive college back that offers us even more versatility in our backfield as he has the ability to contribute as both a runner and receiver out of the backfield," said General Manager Jim Barker. "He's a young veteran that has both NFL and NFL Europe experience and should battle for a roster spot during training camp."

Also in 2003, Simonton spent the first three weeks of the season on the Bill’s practice squad. He was added to the 53-man roster and made his NFL debut vs. Philadelphia on September 28. Simonton was again signed by the 49ers in 2004 and had a brief stint with the Detroit Lions in 2005.

George comes to the Stampeders from the New York Jets, where he was signed as an undrafted free agent from the Kansas State Wildcats. In 2005 with Kansas State, George posted 27 tackles (15 solo), six tackles for a loss, four quarterback sacks, two fumble recoveries, one pass defense breakup and one forced fumble in 11 games.

“Tearrius is a physical defensive lineman with the movement skills to be successful in the CFL” said General Manager Jim Barker. “We look forward to him competing for a spot on our defensive line.”

In ten games in the 2004 campaign, George recorded 21 tackles (11 solo), six tackles for a loss, three quarterback sacks, one pass defense breakup and two forced fumbles. In High School, George earned All-Conference honors as a freshman and was ranked among the top 15 strong defensive ends in the nation by Max Emfinger Recruiting as a senior.
