Short film that shows how the FAA is responding to the problem of increasingly congested airspace. Already in beta testing at a number of airports in the US the new systems will help guide and track aircraft more precisely on more direct routes. The benefit? Well according to the FAA they will include enhanced safety, reduced delays and considerable fuel savings for aircraft operators. All this sounds very good. The only problem I can see is that until the system becomes a mandatory standard or cost effective not all operators will get onboard with the new technology and until they do the system is going to remain little more than another inflight management system.
